MANBRIC is an abbreviation used in the concept of technological modes to denote a complex of technologies that, according to some researchers, will form the basis of the sixth technological mode.
The term is formed by the first letters of seven leading technological directions.
| Letter | Direction | What includes |
|---|---|---|
| M | Medicine | Biomedical technologies, diagnostics, artificial organs, personalized medicine |
| A | Adaptive technologies | 3D printing, layer-by-layer production, rapid prototyping |
| N | Nanotechnology | Materials and devices at the atomic-molecular level, nanoelectronics |
| B | Biotechnology | Genetic engineering, biotechnology, cellular technologies |
| R | Robotics | Industrial and service robots, autonomous systems, drones |
| I | Information technologies | Computing systems, networks, software, data processing |
| K | Cognitive technologies | Consciousness modeling, neurointerfaces, decision support systems |
Unlike the more common and earlier concept of NBIC (nano-, bio-, info-, cognitive technologies), the focus of MANBRIC is on medicine. According to this theory, it is medicine that will become the field where the final phase of the cybernetic revolution will begin, and the integral link that will unite all other directions - from robotic surgeons to biochips and artificial organs - into a single system.
Thus, MANBRIC describes not just a list of advanced technologies, but their interconnected complex, where medicine plays the role of a central link, and the other directions provide it with tools and materials.
