УЭЛЛС, БРЭДФОРД. Послания эллинистических монархов.

Издание является ценным как в историческом, так и в филологическом отношении. Две трети объемистого тома отведены текстам и комментариям к отдельным документам; остальная треть заполнена обстоятельной сводкой всех сведений, какие только имеются о канцеляриях эллинистических монархов, и обзором вопросов палеографии, стиля, синтаксиса и грамматики текстов посланий. Приложенный подробный указатель обнимает весь филологический и исторический богатый материал, заключенный в образцово изданной книге. В книге собрано 75 документов, относящихся к периоду от Антигона до Артобана III и охватывающих все азиатские монархии и Птоломеев, не включая Антигонидов Македонии, так что послания, например, Филиппа V не попали в собрание. Каждый документ снабжен комментарием, который учитывает каждую строку и каждое выражение в тексте, чем-либо обращающие на себя внимание. Большинство посланий уже не раз издавалось и комментировалось. Ценность нового издания заключается в суммировании всех до сих пор данных интерпретаций и в удачном выборе каждый раз наиболее правдоподобного толкования.
