On January 29, 2012, Tatyana Valerianovna Dorofeeva, a philologist-orientalist, translator, and wonderful person, passed away. Tatyana Valeryanovna was born on January 25, 1948 in Penza. In 1970, she graduated from the Institute of Oriental Languages (now the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University), where she studied Indonesian and linguistics. In 1970-1971, she trained in the Malay language at the University of Malaya (Kuala Lumpur). As part of her internship, she spent a month with a Malay family in the village of Tanjung Pahang Tua (Pahang State), where she was affectionately known by her Malay name Aziza. Since 1972, she taught Malay at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, where in 1980 she defended her dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences on the topic "Functioning and development of the Malay language". Since 1994, she also worked at the Institute of Practical Oriental Studies. From 1996 to 1998, she taught Russian at the University of Malaya. She has trained hundreds of specialists in the Malay language and is well remembered at the University of Malaya.

Tatiana has published dozens of articles on the problems of the Malay language and language policy in Malaysia. She is the author of the monograph "History of the written Malay language (VII-early XX centuries) "(2001) and "Textbook of the Malay (Malaysian) language" (2006) - the only works of this kind in Russian Oriental studies.

Tatiana Valerianovna's social and scientific activity is multifaceted. She was a full member of the Russian Geographical Society and scientific secretary of the Nusantara Society, organized seminars and conferences, including for young scientists, edited the society's collections, and initiated the creation of the Malay-Indonesian Studies Cabinet at ISAA. From 2000 to 2006, she represented Russia in the International Malay Language Council. Tatyana Valerianovna was always purposeful, principled, kind, with irrepressible energy and gave her whole soul to her favorite cause. This is what her many students and colleagues will remember.
