The key scientific works of Einstein are concentrated in several revolutionary articles from 1905, as well as in the General Theory of Relativity, completed in 1915–1916. Below are the main works listed by significance and chronology.

1905: The Miracle Year

This year Einstein published several articles that radically changed physics.

Work Title of the Article Significance
On Brownian Motion On the Movement of Particles Suspended in a Stationary Liquid, Required by the Molecular-Kinetic Theory of Heat Evidence of the reality of atoms and molecules, a method for determining their sizes
On the Photoelectric Effect On One Heuristic Point of View Concerning the Emission and Transformation of Light Hypothesis of light quanta, the foundation of quantum theory, Nobel Prize in 1921
Special Theory of Relativity On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies Abandonment of absolute time and space, the principle of the constancy of the speed of light
Equivalence of Mass and Energy Does the inertia of a body depend on the energy contained in it? Equation E = mc², the connection between mass and energy
Doctoral Thesis New Definition of Molecular Sizes New method for calculating Avogadro's number and molecular sizes

1915–1916: General Theory of Relativity

Work Title of the Article Significance
Foundational Work Foundations of the General Theory of Relativity Geometric theory of gravity, curvature of spacetime, explanation of the precession of perihelion of Mercury and the deflection of light

Other Important Works

Year Work Significance
1917 Quantum Theory of Radiation Concepts of spontaneous and stimulated emission, theoretical basis of lasers
1924–1925 Bose-Einstein Statistics Quantum statistics for bosons, prediction of the Bose-Einstein condensate
1935 EPR Paradox Article \"Can Quantum-Mechanical Description of Physical Reality Be Considered Complete?\", influence on quantum information theory

Albert Einstein (1879–1955) was one of the greatest theoretical physicists in the history of science.

Einstein's theory owes much of its notoriety to the so-called "twin paradox." This is probably because people want to live longer. The concept is simple: one twin stays on Earth, while the other travels at near-lightspeed to distant stars in a spaceship, and upon reaching the stars, they return to Earth using the same means and at the same speed. According to the equations of the theory of relativity, the astronaut will appear much younger than the stay-at-home twin upon their reunion.

Kant said, "In every knowledge, there is as much truth as there is mathematics." But in Kant's time, truth was understood differently than it is now. In our era, people accept as truth what provides a tactical advantage—what they pay for—and therefore, it no longer means that any article filled with formulas contains truth that is distinct from the truths about its lack of substance and the author's illiteracy. A profound thought by the mathematician Gelfand: "Logic works perfectly when an adequate language has been established by human experience, intuition, etc., but it is helpless when there is a need for this very language. The development of such a language is not a logical operation."
