Военное ведомство ФРГ вынуждено констатировать, что бундесвер превратился в одну из самых пестрых в этническом отношении армий мира. Уже сейчас в ней из более чем 300 тысяч военнослужащих 10 тысяч не являются этническими немцами. Это выходцы из стран Восточной Европы, турки, курды и... даже африканцы. Процесс "интернационализации" германской армии скорее вынужденный, чем естественный. С сокращением количества призывников на вербовочные пункты бундесвера приходит все больше некоренных граждан, которые имеют, как правило. гораздо меньше шансов найти хорошо оплачиваемую работу "на гражданке". Несмотря на то что руководство министерства обороны ФРГ в целом положительно оценивает процесс "интернационализации" вооруженных сил, командование бундесвера все же следит за тем, чтобы доля представителей этнических и религиозных меньшинств составляла не более 10 процентов от численности каждого подразделения.
