Throughout the century-long history of Russia, among its rulers, there were people of completely different heights. However, some of them stood out so much from the general background that their tall stature became one of the remarkable features that entered historical chronicles. This ranking is based on preserved historical data, contemporary descriptions, and the results of anthropological studies. The TOP-7 includes rulers whose height was recorded at one hundred seventy-five centimeters and above.

1. Peter I the Great (1682–1725) — 204 cm

Among all the rulers of Russia, Emperor Peter I is the unambiguous record holder for height. His height was two hundred four centimeters. According to some data, he could have reached two hundred thirteen centimeters, making him a giant even by modern standards. At the same time, the famous \"royal\" footwear of Peter was size forty-one. His remarkable height and powerful physique were often depicted on ceremonial portraits and highlighted his role as a great reformer.

2. Alexander III (1881–1894) — 190 cm

The second place in this list is held by Emperor Alexander III, whose height, according to historical data, was one hundred ninety centimeters. Contemporary witnesses noted that he was a true Russian hero, possessing not only a tall stature but also extraordinary physical strength. He could easily bend a coin or tear a deck of cards in half. His nickname \"Peacemaker\" is associated with the fact that during his reign, Russia did not engage in war.

3. Nicholas I (1825–1855) — 189 cm

Emperor Nicholas I, the elder brother of Alexander I and the father of Alexander II, was one hundred eighty-nine centimeters tall. He was a prominent, slender, and militaristic monarch whose appearance perfectly matched his reputation as the \"gendarme of Europe\" and \"master of parades.\" His tall stature and posture left an indelible impression on contemporaries, while his menacing gaze and authoritative manner highlighted his status as an autocrat.

4. Boris Yeltsin (1991–1999) — 186 cm

Among the leaders of modern history of Russia, the tallest was the first president Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin. His height was one hundred eighty-six centimeters. This tall, heavyset, and charismatic politician looked imposing against many of his colleagues from world powers. His height and stature often highlighted his role as the \"father-founder\" of new Russia.

5. Alexander II (1855–1881) — 185 cm

Emperor Alexander II, known as the \"Liberator\" for the abolition of serfdom, had a height of one hundred eighty-five centimeters. He was taller than his father, Nicholas I, and of the same height as the future Emperor of France Napoleon III. His tall stature and slender figure were often depicted in numerous portraits. Alexander II was the last Russian emperor to die as a result of a terrorist attack.

6. Ivan IV the Terrible (1533–1584) — 179–180 cm

The only ruler from the pre-Petrine era to make it onto this list. The first Russian tsar Ivan Vasiliyevich the Terrible, according to the results of an anthropological study of his remains, had a height of one hundred seventy-nine to one hundred eighty centimeters. For the sixteenth century of Russia, this was an extremely high indicator, significantly exceeding the average height of men at that time. It is worth noting that the tsar was quite slender and had narrow shoulders.

7. Elizabeth Petrovna (1741–1762) — 179 cm

Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, the daughter of Peter I, was not only the tallest woman on the Russian throne but also one of the tallest rulers in world history. Her height was one hundred seventy-nine centimeters. She inherited her tall stature from her father. This made her a striking figure at any ball, and her elegance and posture were in line with the image of imperial grandeur.
