Weekly magazine "Border of Russia" - 5 years old?
Patrols, chases for violators, control and trace strip, outpost in the mountains, by the sea, in the forest... This is how the border at the level of mass consciousness has been seen since Soviet times. The sentries of our borders did not experience a lack of attention and care on the part of the state and local authorities, public figures and cultural figures, and the media. And service in the border troops has always been honorable and prestigious.
But oddly enough, unlike the army, the 200-thousandth contingent of border guards did not have their own central newspaper (the literary and artistic magazine Pogranichnik, published once a month, does not count).
With the dramatic changes in the geopolitical situation caused by the collapse of the USSR and the transfer of the state border, the Russian "border guards" faced new challenges. After the KGB was abolished, the border guard agency acquired an independent status. And in the activities of the Federal Border Service itself, there is more transparency and openness.
It was then, in 1994, that the border guards had their own central newspaper, The Border of Russia.
From the very beginning, the journalistic team of "Borders of Russia" tried to ensure that it was not perceived only as a special, purely departmental publication, but was aimed at a wide range of readers. After all, the problems of protecting the borders of the Fatherland, border security, everyday life, heroics and romance of service, the military and political situation in neighboring countries and in foreign countries - all this is interesting for an ordinary soldier-border guard and pre-conscript, cadet and veteran, politician and diplomat, writer and historian, screenwriter and cinematographer.
