On December 12-14, 2011, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted the international conference "Antiquity: Historical Knowledge and Source Specifics", organized by the Department of History and Culture of the Ancient East of the Institute*. The conference was dedicated to the memory of E. A. Grantovsky and D. S. Raevsky. Scientists from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Germany, Egypt, Italy, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine took part in its work.
The plenary session was opened by the Chairman. V. P. Androsov, Executive Secretary of the Conference A. S. Balakhvantsev, Deputy Director of the Department of History and Culture of the Ancient East of the Institute of History and Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences. V. M. Alpatov highly appreciated the contribution of E. A. Grantovsky and D. S. Raevsky to Russian science. Welcoming the participants of the conference, he emphasized the high human qualities of Edwin Arvidovich and Dmitry Sergeevich. V. M. Alpatov also noted that although E. A. Grantovsky and D. S. Rayevsky were not administrators by nature, during the difficult period they had to engage in administrative activities, as well as an outstanding researcher who worked together with among them in the Department of History and Culture of the Ancient East of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences - B.
