On August 21, 2010, Alexander Vladimirovich Akimov, Doctor of Economics, Head of the Department of Economic Research of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, turned 60 years old.

After graduating from the Faculty of Geography of the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1972, Alexander Vladimirovich worked as a researcher at the All-Russian Research Institute of Complex Fuel and Energy Problems under the State Planning Committee of the USSR. In 1977, Alexander Vladimirovich defended his PhD thesis on the topic "Population forecasting for a set of territorial units of different levels". Since 1984, A.V. Akimov has been working at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Department of Economic Research, continuing his research, organizational and teaching activities.

In 2005, Alexander Vladimirovich successfully defended his doctoral dissertation and became Head of the Department of Economic Research of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In 2005, the project "Economic mechanisms of development in the countries of the East in the second half of the XX century and the possibilities of their change in Russia"was completed. Employees of the department headed by A.V. Akimov did a great job of clarifying and specifying the concept of an economic mechanism necessary for creating a database. They are divided into categories that allow, on the one hand, to take into account the diversity and variability of state regulation of the economy in the Eastern countries in the second half of the XX century and, on the other, to provide for the possibility of developing many aspects of macroeconomic regulation of the Russian economy in market conditions. A total of 47 files of 2,740 KB were created, which constitute an electronic database of economic mechanisms in the Eastern countries of the second half of the 20th century. Under the leadership of A.V. Akimov, the Department of Economic Research participated in the program of fundamental research of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Public Potential of History", related to the development of important measures in the economic policy of Russia.

At the initiative of A.V. Akimov, forecasting activities were resumed at the Institute of Information Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the results of the forecast were sent to state authorities and commercial firms for information cooperation and country consulting.

Alexander Vladimirovich Akimov is a talented and versatile scientist, whose research interests are quite extensive - from the problems of population forecasting to the strategy of including Russia in the global global process. He has written a number of monographs on various economic issues, published more than 30 major works, and published many of his articles, studies, and reports at scientific conferences in foreign languages. In 2007, based on the methodology he developed, he made a forecast and calculated the dynamics of the world population up to 2300. In his monograph "2300: Global Problems and Russia (looking from the Future)", A.V. Akimov analyzed the consequences of population growth, its resource limitations, as well as its unevenness across countries, which can potentially become a threat to European civilization. The author also considered the possibilities of Russia for its participation in the international division of labor not only as an exporter of fuel and energy, but also food.

A.V. Akimov's numerous articles and books published in recent years also analyze many other topical issues of our country's economic policy.

Alexander Vladimirovich is constantly involved in the training of scientific personnel - since 2004, he has been the Head of the Department of World Economy at the Eastern University of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, gives lectures and successfully provides scientific guidance to graduate students. In addition, Alexander Vladimirovich lectures at the ISAA of Moscow State University. He enjoys authority among students and always helps young scientists.

Alexander Vladimirovich Akimov is a friendly and very interesting person, well-educated and always ready to help his colleagues.

The Department of Economic Research, the Directorate of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the editorial board of the journal "Vostok (Oriens)" cordially congratulate the hero of the day and wish him good health and new success in his multifaceted scientific work.
