There are approximately 3,700 species of mosquitoes in the world. They are found almost everywhere, except for two places on Earth — Iceland and Antarctica.

The greatest number of species has been recorded in regions with a warm and humid climate:

• Brazil — 447 species.
• Indonesia — 439 species.
• Malaysia — 415 species.
• Thailand — 379 species.
• India — 338 species.
• Russia — 112 species.

Difficulties in Counting

According to scientists, there may be up to 16,000 mosquitoes for each person on the planet. However, any estimates remain approximate, as mosquitoes have a short lifespan, reproduce quickly, and are widespread in inaccessible regions for counting.
